Co-management concession to finalize the development and management of the Student Center tourism accommodation facility in Murchison Community Conservancy
Project Executing Agency: USAID/Biodiversity for Resilience Activity
Implementing Organization: African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) & Murchison Community Conservancy (MCC)
Background: USAID/Biodiversity for Resilience Activity is assisting the stakeholders north of the Murchison Falls National Park to strengthen community-based conservation management through operationalization of the Murchison Community Conservancy in Nwoya District. This effort focuses on creating partnerships with private sector companies for conservancy sustainability.
Description: Murchison Community Conservancy (MCC) is seeking a private sector partner to manage and operate the existing Student Center (“Center” or “Facility”) north of Murchison Falls in Nwoya District. The facility aims to serve the growing Student (and potentially other budget traveler) visitation to the national park and the neighboring conservancy. The construction of the structures has been completed with the MCC seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial hospitality operator to enter into a concession agreement.
The Student Center has been developed through the assistance of the African Wildlife Foundation since 2020, with support from USAID/Uganda. The Student Center was constructed to generate early revenue for the MCC. The property is located in the tourism zone of the conservancy in Got Apwoyo sub county.
