KENYA--A rare monkey species, the Tana River Red Colobus, today found only in Kenya, faces extinction due to encroachment on their habitat by human activities, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
These monkeys are found in the Kenya Wildlife Services' only primate reserve in the country -- the Tana River Primate Reserve. Wildlife experts attribute the rare monkey's bleak prospects to human encroachment on the reserve through activities such as farming, livestock grazing and logging.
