BARCELONA, SPAIN--One out of four of the world's mammals are threatened with extinction, according to a comprehensive report of The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, released at the IUCN World Conservation Congress being held this week.

The report further shows that half of all 5,487 species of mammals are in decline. The destruction of habitat and hunting are cited as the main reasons for the extinction threat.

The world's oldest and largest global environmental network, IUCN is made up of more than 1,000 government and NGO member organizations, and almost 11,000 volunteer scientists in more than 160 countries.

This year's World Conservation Congress brings together 8,000 leading decision makers for four days of debates, workshops, dialogues, art and film, roundtable discussions, training courses, music and exhibitions.

A proud member of IUCN since 1966, AWF will host a workshop entitled Building Effective Conservation-based Enterprises: Successes, Outstanding Challenges and Optimal Means for Scaling up Impact.
