BETHESDA, MARYLAND--The African Wildlife Foundation, the Discovery Galleries of Bethesda, Maryland, and photographer Daniel Schreiber have partnered to raise funds and awareness in support of African conservation.

On September 19-21, Discovery Galleries will feature GORILLAS IN OUR MIDST, a special exhibit featuring Schreiber's dramatic images of his close encounters with the critically endangered mountain gorilla and a host of other majestic African wildlife. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibit will support AWF's ongoing efforts to protect the world's most endangered great ape.

Only about 720 mountain gorillas remain in the world, about half of which dwell in the mountain range that straddles the borders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. AWF has worked for more than three decades to protect the mountain gorilla. Today, it directs that work through the International Gorilla Conservation Program (IGCP), a coalition of AWF, Fauna and Flora International, and the Worldwide Fund for Nature.

AWF members and other supporters are invited to attend a special reception on the exhibit's opening and to visit the exhibit during the Galleries' open house.
