Ambassador (ret.) Christopher Murray served as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State from 1976 to 2016. His assignments included service as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo, Political Advisor to the Supreme Allied Commander for NATO Forces, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to the European Union in Brussels. He was also posted abroad in Lebanon, Algeria, Syria, Tunisia, Jamaica, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. While serving as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, he directed the successful evacuation of 15,000 American citizens during the 2006 war between Israel and Hizballah. Ambassador Murray’s assignments at the State Department in Washington, DC, dealt with the United Nations, non-proliferation, the Horn of Africa, and NATO. He speaks French, Dutch, and Arabic. He retired from the Department of State with the personal rank of Minister-Counselor. Chris Murray is married to Danielle De Lange of Ninove, Belgium. Between them, they have four adult children. They reside in Brussels, Belgium, where they enjoy golf, travel, and exploring the country villages and castles of Europe.
