Support the largest Black Rhino Sanctuary in East Africa!
The future of the black rhino is still uncertain in Africa. They have been driven to near extinction – the world rhino population has fallen by more than 90 percent in the last 30 years. Whereas 30 species of rhino once roamed our planet, only five remain today, and all of them are endangered. In Africa, only the black rhinoceros and white rhinoceros still exist. The cause of the rhino’s precipitous decline is man’s relentless pursuit of the animal’s unique horn. In Kenya alone, the numbers of black rhino dropped from an estimated 20,000 in the 1970s to less than 300 animals in the 1980s.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to 79 black rhinos, after the single largest rhino translocation ever undertaken in February 2007. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy monitors its rhinos daily and plans to expand its population.
Ol Pejeta needs your help to maintain its high standards of rhino conservation. With your generous support, Ol Pejeta can continue to equip its rhinos with transmitters; it can continue to pay salaries for the rangers that monitor the rhinos daily and it can continue to increase the size of the rhino sanctuary. This is why we urgently need your generous donations to support this and all of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s important work.
