Craig Sholley's experiences with wildlife and conservation began in 1973 as a Peace Corps volunteer in Zaire, Africa. He has worked and traveled extensively since that time providing biological and ecotourism expertise in a variety of world arenas. As an L.S.B. Leakey grant researcher in the late 1970's, Craig studied mountain gorillas with Dian Fossey at the celebrated Karisoke Research Center. In the late 1980's, Craig directed Rwanda's internationally-known Mountain Gorilla Project. Craig has served as a Senior Associate of the African Wildlife Foundation and then joined AWF's Board of Trustees. He was a Board Member of the Ecotourism Society, and remains on TIES Scientific Advisory Board. Throughout much of the 1990's, Craig was Director of Conservation and Education for International Expeditions, an organization widely recognized for its ecotourism and conservation efforts. Craig returned to Rwanda in 1995 on assignment with the National Geographic Society surveying the conservation status of mountain gorillas and critical habitat areas in Rwanda, Zaire, and Uganda in the aftermath of Rwanda's civil war. The findings of that trip are the basis of an October 1995 article in the National Geographic Magazine on mountain gorilla conservation. Craig now works with the African Wildlife Foundation headquartered in Washington, DC with field projects throughout east and southern Africa.

 

James Weis and his wife Nicky run Eyes on Africa, an African safari tour company based in Chicago, Illinois. James has balanced a career running a financial systems consulting business with his love of Africa by spending at least five weeks every year making wildlife images in Africa, mainly Botswana's Okavango Delta. His photography has become his passion over the past 15 years and Eyes on Africa is a fitting outlet of his love for the continent's wild places and its wildlife. Daryl Balfour is today regarded as one of Africa's leading wildlife photographers and authors, with numerous best-selling coffee-table books to his credit, including Simply Safari (Abbeville Publishers, 2001) and African Elephants - A Celebration of Majesty (Abbeville Publishers, 1997), among others. With his wife Sharna he has contributed, as principal photographer, to many other major books, including The Spectacular World of Wildlife (Reader's Digest) and Wildest Africa (New Holland), while his work is represented by many of the world's leading photo agencies and libraries and has been published in publications such as National Geographic, International Wildlife, Outside, BBC Wildlife, GEO, Outdoor Photographer, and Africa Geographic. Daryl & his wife live in Swaziland and South Africa but travel throughout Africa and much of the rest of the world for up to 10 months of each year. Britt and Cardo Kleberg spent over 10 years managing photographic safari lodges and guiding travelers in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. It was through the many hours of following and viewing wildlife that their interest in photography was born. During their time in Africa, the couple lived in the bush and worked closely with the local communities within Northern Botswana. During their months off, Britt and Cardo focused on traveling and photographing untamed areas of the African continent, the Indian Ocean, and South America. Britt, Cardo, and their two sons, Tano and Beau, base themselves in Texas. Cardo is currently working as a financial advisor for South Texas Money Management, Ltd. Clint retired from doing air traffic control a few years ago and decided to become a wildlife photographer. Clint's background as a photographer began over thirty-five years ago doing wedding photography. He likes to focus on the positive aspects and the beauty of Africa's wildlife in their natural settings. Clint travels to eastern Africa at least twice a year to capture these photographic moments using Nikon digital SLR cameras. He sells large prints on his website and at two African Art Centers in Houston, Texas. Clint donates part of this print sales to AWF and has given unlimited use of his digital images to the AWF website.

Mark Boulton is a consultant specializing in conservation education in developing countries. He has generously contributed photographs for AWF's use. He is the founder and Executive Director of the International Centre for Conservation Education (ICCE). His areas of expertise include environmental education in developing countries, professional technology and darkroom techniques, graphic design, digital imaging and desktop publishing systems, CD-ROM production, e-mail and Web communications. Mark has a combined 40 years experience working in conservation education and as a consultant in countries such as Kenya, Zambia, Nepal. Art Wolfe has worked on every continent and in hundreds of locations. Born in the UK, Nigel Dennis has traveled and photographed throughout southern Africa for the past 22 years. Although concentrating primarily on wildlife, his work covers a broad spectrum of nature subjects, including birds, reptiles, flora and African scenery. His images have appeared in many of the world’s top magazines including National Geographic, Time, Geo, BBC Wildlife and Terre Sauvage. Nigel’s photographs have been published in over 25 countries world-wide. To date he has produced seventeen wildlife and nature books.
