Aardvarks are nocturnal, usually waiting until dark before they emerge from their burrows. Their night-time travels average one to three miles but can range up to 18 miles a night.

Dr. Steven Kiruswa is well suited for the task of Maasai Steppe Heartland Director for he knows the area well. He is a Maasai hailing from the Longido Constituency in northern Tanzania. Steven has his Ph.D. in Communication Studies; an M.A. in organizational Development, and before joining AWF Steven undertook Post-Doctoral research in Better Policy and Management Options for Pastoral lands. He therefore brings experience in community development and communications. AWF’s work in the Maasai Steppe has a large and challenging element of community work, and Steven is well placed to provide the necessary leadership and guidance to his Heartland team to deliver conservation impact.
