The dominant female dwarf mongoose spends little time suckling her young; instead, subordinate females tend to them. These babysitters change often during the day so they can forage for food.

Help an Emerging National Park

Make History with AWF

Imagine if you played a role in helping Yellowstone or the Kruger become the parks they are today. In Mozambique, Banhine National Park is emerging from a decade of civil war. Strapped for resources and basic infrastructure, the park is being “rebuilt” so that its unique wetland ecosystems and the recovering wildlife populations will be protected. AWF has constructed a new camp that will serve as an international research and conservation center, where scientists can conduct studies and collect data to guide conservation measures in the park. Next, AWF will strengthen the park staff by equipping the wardens and rangers with the technology they currently lack to monitor the park. We need your help to purchase radios, vehicles, and other equipment that will enable the dedicated staff to ensure Banhine becomes one of the Africa’s most important wildlife hotspots.
