Basic Needs, Big Impact

AWF made history when it worked with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government to establish the Faunal Reserve of Lomako-Yokokala – a reserve of more than 3,600 square kilometers and one of the remaining habitats of the endangered great ape, the bonobo. This is a landmark achievement as it is the DRC’s first reserve that formally recognizes the local community in the development of its management plan.

But that was just the beginning. AWF has trained 50 local research assistants and four team leaders to help with biological surveys, detailed mapping, and recording human activity and bushmeat hunting. Now these scouts need the basic equipment and resources to enable them to carry out their jobs, on which the bonobos are depending. A small gift from you can go a long way for the bonobos and scouts in the Congo.
